The National Mall Looked Relatively Empty For Donald Trump’s Inauguration | The Huffington Post

Where have all the people gone ?

Overhead photos of the National Mall during President Donald Trump’s inauguration Friday showed thinner crowds than for President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Donald Trumps crowd on the Mall just before the start of the swearing in.

Security had planned for a crowd of about 800,000 to 900,000 people. While no official numbers have come in on the size of the crowd, the photo evidence shows it to be noticeably less than the One and a half Million plus that gathered to witness the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Photos taken just prior to the swearing-in ceremony showed large portions of tarp exposed, with almost no one standing near the Washington Monument. Here is a comparison of each event mentioned above.

Brings to mind a song:

Where have all the young girls gone
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone
Long time ago…?

– Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson, a paraphrase from the original

In all fairness, other modern inaugurations have had numbers similar to Trump’s (estimated) attendance. Bush’s first inauguration drew around 300,000 people, Bill Clinton drew 800,000 at his first inauguration in 1993.
