Trump Blasts Media – Compliments Frederick Douglass at African – American Listening Session

Does Mr. Trump know who Frederick Douglass was, and can he leave his bias out of an important celebration of African-American History Month?

Apparently not, or maybe not. During an event billed by the White House as a “listening session” celebrating the start of African-American History Month, President Trump took aim at the “dishonest” media again early Wednesday. The president agreed with, and even stated the idea that U. S. media organizations are the “opposition party”.

“A lot of the media is the opposition party,” said Mr. Trump “They’re very dishonest people…” once again bringing up the issue of a mistake a journalist made – and quickly corrected – about the removal of Martin Luther King Jr.’s bust from the Oval Office.

And

During a speech he gave at this event, he noted several celebrated black American historical figures, including Martin Luther King Jr, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Frederick Douglass.

But many people immediately became somewhat uncomfortable over something about his description of Douglass — a man who escaped slavery to become an acclaimed author, abolitionist and civil rights activist. What he said was, well, a little off.

What the president did basically was reference Frederick Douglass as “an example of somebody who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.” So saying Douglass was alive ?? Some think that is just what he was thinking…

Some questioned if the quote was even real (It is), and others pondered whether our president is aware of who Frederick Douglass was.
